3 Things to Consider Before Hiring a Moving Company

As a consumer in today’s world, there are more choices than ever. Some purchases are made without a lot of thought, some require a great deal of research.

When a move is on your horizon, take an honest look at your home environment. Some of your belongings may have little meaning to you; but most likely you have accumulated a home full of meaningful, possibly expensive, possessions. Your furnishings, your electronics, your artwork, your grant-grandmother’s china all need careful care when moving.  Most likely, you will need professional help.

Make sure you ask the right questions to ensure your needs will be met before you make a decision you regret.

3 things to consider before hiring a moving company:

  1. Get recommendations from trusted friends and family. Although the internet is a useful tool, the information shared from friend’s and family is without suspect. Your real estate agent is another great source for suggestions. He/she has a vested interest in the success of your move.
  2. Do your research. Once you have gathered a few moving options, research the companies and check out their online reviews. Have they proven themselves with successful moves over the years? It is admirable to support a start-up company, but do you want them establishing protocols on your stuff? A history of happy customers better predicts another successful move, this time for you. Do they do in-home assessments to determine the scope of your move? Communication between the home owner and your mover is key to success.  Look for someone willing to take the time to accurately assess your move. Who will actually be doing the work? Surely, you do not want a convicted thief moving your belongings. Are they licensed and insured? Are you given a tentative timeline and quote for the work? Will they be able to meet your needs? Each move is different and may have many factors to consider.
  3. Ask good questions. Hopefully, after talking with others and doing some research, you are ready to contact a mover. If some of your questions were not previously answered, now is the time to ask. In addition, ask to speak to a few of their previous customers whose moves are similar to yours in size and scope. You will get a good sense of fit after an interactive conversation with someone who has had experience using this moving company. Would they use their services again?

Finding a trusted mover may seem like a lot of work but think of the job you are asking them to do. They will be in your home moving all your treasured belongings. You want to hire a company with a proven track record, someone you can trust. You want a company that respects you and your belongings; and are able to carefully and safely move you to your next home. Careful with the China is confident in our ability to move you.
